Was it The Game of Life? Sorry!? Trouble? Chutes & Ladders?
Somebody taught us it was burdensome to go back to the beginning. But if you’ve lost your way, quite often that’s exactly where you need to go. It’s not a demotion. It’s not a set back. If you go back on purpose you could very well be learning to live again.
Jesus tells the church at Ephesus to go back to what they used to do at first. Literally, repent (turn around) and go back to what you use to do. Can you imagine what they had to stop doing in order to go back? Surely that made everyone happy.
You see? It’s not always bad to go back, to start over. The point is not to stay ahead of life or of others. Our joy is to stay in line with the will of God.
Do you need to go back?
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
