You know it’s a good Sunday in church when you’re able to tie the reading of Jesus’ Ascension to the first five Rocky movies. Yea, some days are just that good.
I think I finally realized why the Ascension is mostly ignored. Oh, like you remembered it is the Sunday before Pentecost? Oh, like you remembered it’s actually the Thursday before the Sunday before Pentecost? We like the cross and the empty tomb. Those are easy to write songs about. And they remind us of what God was so willing to do for us.
The Ascension reminds us of what we’re supposed to do for God.
Ouch. No wonder we would rather get along to Pentecost Sunday; it’s our birthday, you know.
Here’s the rest of this week’s sermon that talks about the Ascension and Jesus’ prayer for us to be one. Unidos!
