JUNE 30, 2014 I’m so forgetful. Yet I remember every minute. My family says I am not the same. That’s what happens when one day changes all. Pain is not the same, but it’s not better. There are less tears now. But less can be more. Today is the same as any other. Tell that to my heart. Life goes on because it has no real choice. We go on because our real choice is…..
It’s that time again! I received the news last week of my new appointment. At the end of June, our family is moving to Corpus Christi to serve Kelsey Memorial Iglesia Metodista Unida. There’s no in-house website to link you to–my first day’s work?–but hey, the blog has never been set on the beach before. Maybe you’ll get a different vibe when you read. We’re scheduled to move on Thursday, June 25th. So, our first…..
I feel as if God is trying to get my attention. For whatever reason(s), it took me forever to read Leanord Sweet’s book, Viral: How Social Networking Is Poised to Ignite Revival. No, it wasn’t a difficult read at all. If you’re interested in the implications of social media or think it’s a total waste of humanity, you should read the book and be enlighted. He talks about both kinds of people, Gutenbergers & Googlers……
One of the first things we learned about Shiner is that baseball is a big deal. Yes, everyone told us about the beer first, but baseball wan’t very far behind. So, it didn’t take Nathan long to catch baseball fever after moving here. And since we hadn’t learned all there was to do in our new home yet, he was able to convince The Fletcher Five to go to the baseball field in town to…..
There was a time I would have thought this video was a bit exaggerated. As you watch, you can see where it’s going, but you might be surprised when you get there.
I’m in the habit of scanning through radio stations in the car. The longest drive I make in Shiner is the five minute trek to get the kids from school. During that quick trip, I like hearing the different music and, sometimes, the DJ bits. Then there are those times I find myself listening to commercials because there’s too much static on other channels (Small-town life!). While listening, I’ve been reminded ’tis the season for Christmas parties. Christmas parties abound: White Elephant; Ugly Sweater; Secret Santa; Christmas karaoke. And then there are the ones advertised on the radio. I’m not quite sure how some of those parties are the best way to celebrate the Lord’s coming into the world.
Still, there’ll be a lot of partying going on these next few weeks; because people only party at Christmas time 😉
That’s what’s behind the ad in the video. It’s hard for me to watch. But it needs to be watched. And it needs to be shared. There’ll be some who think it’s a bit exaggerated. Clearly, those people are talking to the wrong families.
