TobyMac is a Christian rapper. If you listen to Christian radio, you’ve heard his music at some point. He’s been around for a while. Back in October, TobyMac’s son, Truett, passed away. He was 21 years old. Recently, TobyMac released 21 Years as a tribute to Truett Have a listen. Have you dried your eyes yet? I am sorry anytime anyone has to endure such a loss. What I appreciate about TobyMac’s song is twofold……

Almighty God | Music Monday

The first time I heard this song was on my way home from New Mexico.  It was a bus full of teenagers who had just finished summer camp.  I say “just,” but it was actually a 15-hour trip.  As I was trying to get some rest, Brittani told me to listen to her Ipod.  She had just heard Almighty God. Wow! This is a beautiful reminder of the ways God touches our heart. A group from…..

Sing Christmas! | Music Monday

I’m late.  I know. I know. It’s Wednesday, and I’m posting Music Monday.  If it makes you feel better, I planned to post this on Monday, but forgot.  Yea, I know, that’s so unlike me to forget anything. Our Chancel Choir hosted their annual Christmas Cantata this weekend.  It’s always a blessing to hear the Christmas story told with music.  I’m grateful for the people that spent many months preparing for this year’s event. This…..

A New Year | Music Monday

Admittedly, I’m probably late to the party.  I don’t know that I had heard of 92nd Street Y.  But it only took one video to change that.  Here is an excerpt from their website:

92nd Street Y is a world-class cultural and community center where people all over the world connect through culture, arts, entertainment and conversation. For over 140 years, we have harnessed the power of arts and ideas to enrich, enlighten and change lives, and the power of community to repair the world.

As a proudly Jewish organization, 92Y enthusiastically welcomes and reaches out to people of all ages, races, faiths and backgrounds while embracing Jewish values like learning and self-improvement, the importance of family, the joy of life, and giving back to our wonderfully diverse and growing community, both locally and around the world.

There is no other place like 92Y.

Yesterday was Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.  This song was recorded by 92Y as a new year blessing. In We Are the World fashion, various artists from around the world shared in creating this blessing. And what a blessing it is!

I know I’ll be playing this again come New Year’s Day.

May this be a year of love and kindness.
May strangers come to be friends.
May truth and compassion always guide us.

May this be a year of hope and healing
for all of those in need.
May all of our deeds be a blessing.

A new year, a good year, a chance to start all over
A new year, a sweet year, a chance to bring us closer

May this be a year of selfless giving.
May this be a year of peace.
And may we forgive and be forgiven.

A new year, a good year, a chance to start all over
A new year, a sweet year, a chance to bring us closer
A new year, a good year, a chance to start all over
A new year, a sweet year, a chance to bring us closer

Closer to the ones we love
a world that we can be proud of
as long as there are stars above
there comes a new year

Stay blessed…john
